Co:Writer SOLO Edition
Q:
Why is Co:Writer is only sending the first few letters/words of my sentence to my word processor?
Q: Where did my "Settings" palette button go? Why can't my student change their settings?
| A: When creating a new student in Co:Writer SE you will be guided
through a wizard to create a "writer file" for that student. This
file contains all the custom preferences for him/her which
includes which palette buttons they have available to them.
If you select
the
"Beginning" Writer Level option during the creation process it will not give
the student the "Settings" button in their
palette. You will need to log in to Co:Writer as a Teacher, select
your student from the drop down list, then click on the "Palette" button
to manually assign the settings button. From here you can assign
any number of buttons the student has available.

Q: When
I turn on my Alphasmart 3000 I get a message reading "Bus Error Accessing: 0x00405555".
How can I fix this?

SmartApplet to v1.6.

details or Call 01925 256500 ext. 201. |

Q: Will Co:Writer SmartApplet work with the AlphaSmart 3000 IR
(Infrared)?
| A: All the normal IR functions (keyboard emulation,
sending a file to the host, the Get Utility) should work as usual.
What will
not work is trying to download the Applet or Topic Dictionaries through
the IR mode. This needs to be done with a standard cable connection
(USB or serial cable). Click here for
more info and trouble shooting tips |

Q: What dictionary comes with Co:Writer SmartApplet?
| A:There is a 6K main dictionary for Co:Writer SmartApplet.
In addition, Co:Writer SmartApplet comes with approximately 20 topic
dictionaries. Use these topic dictionaries along with the 6K main dictionary
so that the predicted word lists match the subject your students are
writing about. |

Q: How many topic dictionaries can I use with the SmartApplet?
| A: Only 5 topic dictionaries can be downloaded to the
SmartApplet at any one time (because of memory constraints with the
AlphaSmart keyboard). When using the 10K Topic Dictionary, you will
be unable to use another Topic Dictionary simultaneously (due to memory
constraints with the AlphaSmart 3000). |

Q: Do
you need a computer for the Co:Writer SmartApplet?
| A: Yes, you need a desktop machine for loading the SmartApplet
onto the AlphaSmart 3000 and selecting topic dictionaries. You also
need a desktop machine and the full Co:Writer 4000/SE program for creating
and editing topic dictionaries. |

Q: How do I get the topic dictionaries I want to use with Co:Writer
SmartApplet?
| A: You can choose
the Co:Writer Topic Dictionaries that are included on the Co:Writer
SmartApplet CD, Topic Dictionaries you make with Co:Writer
4000/SE or Topic Dictionaries you get from our web
site. |

Q: The
flexible spelling feature of Co:Writer 4000/SE really helps my poor spellers.
Is this feature available with Co:Writer SmartApplet?
| A: Co:Writer SmartApplet does
not include FlexSpellT. This flexible spelling feature, a unique
and important component of Co:Writer 4000/SE, relies on Text to
Speech technology (TTS) to reinforce correct spelling. Due
to limited memory, the AlphaSmart 3000 cannot support (TTS),
therefore we decided not to include FlexSpell in Co:Writer
SmartApplet. |

Co:Writer 4000
Q: I
installed both Co:Writer 4000 and Write:OutLoud on a computer. When I went
to launch the programs Write:OutLoud works fine but Co:Writer 4000 does
not speak and the speech options are grayed out. How can I get the speech
options back?
| A: This is caused from a ViaVoice version conflict with
the different voices over writing each other. You will need to make
a modification to a file called DJ Speech Access 2 in the Registry. Click
here for Step by Step Instructions |

Q: I
can't seem to get Co:Writer 4000 to send the text over to a word processor
after typing punctuation or pressing the enter key. What am I doing wrong?
| A: In order to create the link
between the two programs You always need to make sure that
you open Co:Writer 4000 first, then launch the word processing
program. Once you have both open press the Wake up key to bring
Co:Writer 4000 in the fore front. |

Q:
I would like to be able to use Co:Writer 4000 with a couple of different
text programs simultaneously without having to close and reopen the programs
in order to maintain a link between the programs. How can I do this?
| A: Click on Options on the menu bar in Co:Writer
4000 and then Wakeup Key. Place a check in the box next to "Change
connection on wakeup" and click OK. Each time you press the
wakeup key it will automatically connect to the current active
program. |
