Wordshark provides 36 different games using sound, graphics and text to teach and reinforce word recognition and spelling. The games cover concepts such as phonics, onset and rime, homophones, spelling rules, common letter patterns, visual and auditory patterns, prefixes, suffixes, roots, word division, high frequency words, use of words in context and dictionary skills. Wordshark offers three alternative structured courses using different word lists specially targeted at pupils with specific learning difficulties: spellings and word recognition needed for the Literacy Hour, words from the 3 stages of Alpha to Omega, and words for secondary students and adults. The program also provides a simple way of creating word lists and keeping student records.
