Teacher's Guide and Teacher Materials CD
The teacher's guide and the teacher materials CD include
a wealth of information to get started with Start-to-Finish
Literacy Starters — you'll find the technical information
needed to use the computer books and supplemental
teacher materials, blackline masters for teacher and
pupil tools, as well as instructional ideas for:
|
• | Always Activities for before,
during and after reading |
|
•
| Strategies for reading effectively
with pupils using each text type |
| | |
A separate teacher materials CD includes electronic files for all of the blackline masters, story-specific vocabulary cards and graphics. In addition, story text and graphics can automatically be installed into Don Johnston's Write:OutLoud® eText and Pictures folders and BuildAbility® Images folder for use with extension activities.
Intervention Planning Tool
The Intervention Planning Tool provides teachers with
a way to assess pupils' reading skills and plan
interventions to move pupils forward in the areas of:
| | |
Vocabulary Cards
Each book has a matching set of vocabulary cards to
support the type of text represented in the book
(Emergent, Transitional and Conventional). Emergent
and Transitional vocabulary cards support building oral
language and the Conventional vocabulary cards help
pupils build sight word vocabulary. Ideas for increasing
readers' vocabulary and using the cards are included in
the "Building Vocabulary" section of the teacher's guide.
| | |
Reading Chart
Giving pupils as many opportunities to read is critical for
pupils beginning to read. With the reading chart, pupils
can keep track of all the books they've read, the format they
used (computer book or paperback book), who they read
them with, whether they liked the book and future reading
plans.
| | |
Reading Volume and Reading
Preferences Graphs
Teachers and pupils can see the progress they have
made by graphing the data from the reading chart. This
graph is provided as a blackline master and a Microsoft®
Excel template.
| | |
Book Talk Communication Board
Book Talk is a communication display that beginning
readers can use to discuss books before, during and
after reading. It provides beginning readers an
opportunity to actively participate in their reading
experience. This overlay is available as a blackline
master and a PDF file on the teacher materials CD.
| | |
eText & Story Pictures
Separate text files for use with Write:OutLoud®
contains all the text for each of the Start-to-Finish
Literacy Starters sets. This allows teachers to
accommodate the special requirements of students
whose disabilities may require or benefit from an
alternate format, like a larger font size or a different
background color.
| | |
Story-specific graphics are provided on the teacher
materials CD so students have familiar graphics for
extension activities.
